Interview with Aymen Trouble from Dexter Danger
LocalZine: Alright so lets start with whos in the band and what does each member play?
Aymen: Ok well, Mixmasta Josh beats the skins (not the only thing he beats), Sean is hot, plays bass, and does back up vocals, Miguel eats burritos, plays guitar and does back up vocals, and there's me, Aymen Trouble, and I play geetar and sing for the band.
LocalZine:How and when did Dexter Danger Start?
Aymen:Dexter Danger came about after the death of Josh and I's old band, Spoiled Rotten. We decided to start a new band that took things a bit more seriously, a band that would rock everyone's socks off. So Dexter Danger was born, in the Fall of 2000 after Sean 'Puffy' McKnight joined the band. We wanted to add more dimension to the band, so adding Miguel to play guitar and back up vox in October this year, completed our sound. We were finally complete and ready to rock out with our cocks out, baby.
LocalZine: How old are you guys?
Aymen: We're still youngins. Sean is 17, I am 19, and Josh and Miguel just turned 20. So Sean gets left out when we all go on our porn and cigar runs.
LocalZine: Who are your guys biggest influences?
Aymen: We all love bands like, Saves the Day, Green Day, and Dashboard Confessional. So I figure those are our influences. Heheh. We all listen to different stuff though, from Sean and his Pink Floyd records, to Josh and his Spice Girls CDs, to Miguel with his Midtown, and me with my frikkin Green Day.
LocalZine: Whats your favorite place to play?
Aymen: Our favorite place to play or have played is 924 Gilman Street, I'm sure the rest of the boys agree. The whole vibe there is amazing. The people, the bands, and all the kids that come out are the greatest people we have dealt with at any venue or show. I respect everything about that place.
LocalZine: How'd you like playing Gilman Street? Was it cool to know you were on the
same stage your fav. band Green Day started on?
Aymen: Didn't I just answer this one? Hahaha. But yeah, playing Gilman for the first time was one of the greatest feelings ever. Sorta like losing your virginity. Well almost. Hahah. All I kept thinking on the way home from the show was: 'Man, we just played a stage that bands like Green Day, Operation Ivy, and Rancid all played on.' It almost wasn't feisable we had just played a sold out show at Gilman, where bands that started a giant punk revolution started out doing shows. It's an incredible feeling.
LocalZine: Alright, if you could play in any band past or present who would it be?
Aymen: Personally I would say, Saves the Day. I bet you were expecting me to say Green Day huh? Hahahah. Well I would have, but that's a three piece that I idolize and I would feel as if I was ruining a legendary lineup. Hahah. On the other hand Saves the Day, have 5 people in the band. And I would only join if a guitarist or drummer left or something. It would be cool to play with them just because of the emotion in their music. It's spine tingling. And it would be great to be a part of it.
LocalZine: Shakira or Pink?
Aymen: Christina Aguilera. ::drools:: Marry me. Please.
LocalZine: What do you think about punk bands "selling out"?
Aymen: I wouldn't say a band 'sold out' unless they changed their style just to fit into the trend that was happening, or got offered an amount of money to change their looks, values, or the views they express in their music. Most of the time, a band will sign to a bigger label only because they are trying to get what they have to say out to a bigger audience.
LocalZine: What does the name Dexter Danger mean?
Aymen: We all have a thing for geeky stuff. I mean, hey we grew up as the uncool kids at school so I figure geeky stuff usually suits us. We were first going to name the band Dexter, but it was taken. So we decided to add superhero spunk to it. I had drawn a cartoon character, who was a geeky kid supehero. And his name was Dexter Danger, so I added Danger to the name. And there it was. It stuck.
LocalZine: Tell me a bit about the upcoming album..
Aymen: Our full length wil be out early next year. And we are recording a preview/demo of it later this month. That demo will be available in the first week of January. For the full length you can probably expect a lot more of an darker emotional side to us. I really can't describe all the new songs. They seem to have come out a bit more personal, emotional, aggressive than our previous effort, the "It's Not Pretty Being Easy." EP.
It's pretty rad. I mean we haven't turned into Cannibal Corpse or anything, but things have gotten a lot more personal, that's for sure.
LocalZine: Whos the pimpest mother fucker in all the land?
Aymen: Withoubt a doubt, the title of "Pimpest Mother Fucker In All The Land" , goes to: Zachary of The Muckruckers!
